Every artist has a story — a thread that runs through every piece they create, connecting the first tentative brushstroke to the most confident, fully realised work. This is mine.
Where It All Began
My journey into painting began with a deep love of nature — the way light filters through bare winter branches, the quiet drama of a misty landscape, the way a single tree can feel both ancient and alive. I wanted to capture those feelings on canvas, to create pieces that made people stop and feel something.
What started as a personal creative outlet quickly became something more. Each painting taught me something new — about texture, about colour, about the courage it takes to commit to a bold brushstroke and trust where it leads.
Finding My Voice
My style evolved naturally toward textured, abstract work — heavily worked surfaces with impasto techniques, gold leaf detailing, and a palette rooted in the warm neutrals, soft greys and earthy tones of the natural world. I became fascinated by the way texture could transform a flat canvas into something almost sculptural, something you wanted to reach out and touch.
Trees became a recurring subject — not as literal representations, but as symbols. Of strength, of seasons, of quiet endurance. Whether a sweeping panoramic landscape or an intimate close-up of roots and branches, each tree painting carries something of that feeling.
A Favourite Piece
If I had to choose one piece that truly captures where I was as an artist at that moment, it would be the large 4-panel panoramic gold leaf tree design — a sweeping, wide-format work spanning 191cm across four panels, with textured gold detailing that catches the light differently at every hour of the day. It was ambitious, it was challenging, and when it was finished, I knew something had shifted in my practice. That piece sold, and I still think about it.
You can browse it and many other sold works in my Previous Works archive — a curated collection of past pieces that tells the story of this journey, painting by painting.
Looking Forward
The studio is always evolving. New pieces are in progress, new ideas are taking shape, and the same love of texture, nature and quiet drama that has always driven my work continues to guide every canvas I begin.
